the history of KNOW GOOD MUSIC

Back in 2019 Rob came up with the crazy idea of recording a podcast with his longtime friend Matt.. at the time there were only 819,000 podcasts.  51% of Americans were listening to podcasts in 2019.  In 2026 there are 4.8 million podcasts and growing.

Our first podcast was recorded in a hotel room in Fredericksburg, VA.  We had no mic but only a laptop computer and an idea.  Even though our first podcast was a music podcast (on Milli Vanilli) the podcasts to follow were not solely about music.

We started out as "A bit above".  This was very brief as it was only up for 1 month before we switched from podomatic to podbean.  The names were changed to protect the innocent.  Rob was Jim .. Matt was Mike.  And so it began as "Jim and Mike Talk" ... we talked Beer, A book about a Fly, Horror movies and even the NFL...

Maybe a year or so later we decided to dedicate the podcast to Music ... but back up a little.  In 2020 Rob decided that they should interview music people.  A man by the name of "plastic EP" was doing daily interviews with some past legends of music.  For Jim and Mike's first interview he asked a friend Jay Rowe (who recorded with Pat DiNizio of the New Jersey band, the Smithereens).  Jay is a smooth jazz pianist and the perfect guest for the first interview.

Incredibly the second interview was with Chuck Negron (from Three Dog Night).  Three Dog Night sold over 90 million albums and Jim and Mike were interviewing this legend.  It was only the 2nd interview but one of legendary proportions and opened up the gates to many more legendary interviews.

Eventually the name of podcast was changed once again.  Now it was "Jim and Mike talk Music".

Then Rob's long time friend Jeremy joined the podcast.  Well, we very well couldn't call it Jim and Mike Talk Music anymore and to add Jeremy's name would be too long a podcast name... so Rob and Matt settled on Know Good Music.  The name you know us by today.

This is why if  you listen to older podcasts you may be confused as to the older names for the intro.

Sam soon joined the podcast and Ms. Fab soon followed after.

Rob is the constant podcaster and Matt, Jeremy, Sam & Ms Fab are revolving guest co-hosts.

We may even have more guest co-hosts in the future for an episode or two.  Some of of our other guests were Paul Sutt (catch him on the Elvis podcast from January) and Jeremy Hirsch did a couple podcasts.  Rob met Paul and Jeremy H. thru his horror acting career (he has on the side).

This year the podcast format was changed slightly.  We've done away with our music news, new releases, etc. type of podcasts.  Expect about 4 podcasts a year having to do with Album Anniversaries.  Also expect some of the same themes: concert reviews, album anniversary shows, book reviews, album roulette and forgotten bands... and don't forget our INTERVIEWS!

While we are open to new artists for interviews we do our scheduling sometimes months in advance.  We are always open to interview suggestions but keep in mind we normally only do one interview a month.

Thank you for listening and don't forget to spread the word... tell your music loving family and friends how they need to listen to Know Good Music!

TURN OFF THE TV - TURN UP THE MUSIC

To "turn off the TV, turn up the music," you would first locate the television's power button or remote to turn the TV off, and then use the same remote or a separate audio device's controls to increase the music's volume. For smart TVs, this may involve navigating to settings to find the power-off option or using a dedicated "picture off" feature to save energy.

Turning off the TV:
Use the remote: Find the power button on your TV's remote control and press it once to turn the TV off.
Use the TV's controller: Locate the physical controller button on the TV itself (often at the bottom) and press it to power the TV off, according to Samsung.

Use a smart feature: Some smart TVs have a "Picture Off" option in their Quick Settings menu that turns off the screen but keeps the audio playing, which might be helpful if you want to listen to music from the TV's speakers without the picture.
Turning up the music

Use the remote or device controls: Once the TV is off, or if you are using a separate device like a sound bar or streaming music player, locate its volume controls to increase the music's volume.

Use voice commands: If your TV or audio system supports voice commands, you can say something like "Volume up" or "Increase music volume" to adjust the music level.
